Overview Hiring Ruby Developer – Merge Replit Prototype with Civic-Tech Proof of Concept Democus is a civic-tech platform designed to reinvent how constituents and representatives engage. We’ve built an existing proof of concept in plain Ruby and a frontend prototype in Replit. Now, we’re ready to bring them together into a working MVP with Reddit-style community features: threaded discussions, voting, feeds, and user reputation. The Opportunity We’re looking for a Ruby Developer who thrives in early-stage projects and has a knack for community-driven design. You’ll help merge the backend Ruby proof of concept with the Replit prototype to create a clean, scalable, and engaging product. This role is perfect if you enjoy civic tech, love building community-style features, and want to work closely with a founder to shape something from the ground up. What You’ll Work On Unifying the Ruby proof-of-concept backend with the Replit prototype frontend. Designing and implementing Reddit-inspired features: Discussion boards with upvotes/downvotes Nested comment threads and feeds User reputation / karma scores Simplifying the platform into a lite version that’s intuitive for everyday users. Debugging, testing, and polishing user flows. Helping define the technical roadmap for scaling the MVP. What We’re Looking For Strong Ruby programming experience (plain Ruby, not Rails-specific). Understanding of community/social platforms and reputation/voting mechanics. Experience integrating prototypes into working Ruby apps. Frontend familiarity (HTML, CSS, TailwindCSS or similar). Problem-solving mindset with an ability to debug and ship quickly. Nice to Have Previous work in civic-tech or community-driven platforms. Knowledge of live-feed systems (polling or WebSockets).
