About the Role

The Company is in search of a Vice President for Government Relations and Policy Development to lead its advocacy efforts on behalf of private, nonprofit higher education institutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing a bold legislative strategy, representing the organization in Congress, the Executive Branch, and other key government areas. This role requires a visionary and strategic leader with a proven track record of managing teams and strategic priorities, particularly in the context of higher education public policy. The Vice President will work closely with the President, the Board of Directors, and various external collaborators to ensure that the company's positions are effectively communicated and that the diverse needs of its membership are met. Applicants for the Vice President position should have a demonstrated passion for higher education, with a focus on the private nonprofit sector, and possess a comprehensive understanding of higher education policy. The role demands a leader with exceptional communication skills, the ability to problem-solve with creativity and decisiveness, and a proven capacity for managing and leading people. A strong network across critical governmental agencies and a record of bipartisan influence are essential. The ideal candidate will have 10-15 years' of experience in a relevant field, with a preference for those who have worked in higher education public policy, Capitol Hill, national membership associations, or related governmental agencies. An undergraduate degree is required, and a relevant advanced degree is preferred.
