Job Title: Orthopedic Tech


Department: Ambulatory Services

Location: Dallas Specialty Center

Job Type: Full-time


Shift: Rotating, 2-11 and 8-4:30

POSITION SUMMARY


Our Orthopedic Tech involves the application and removal of all types of casts and splints. A person in this role typically has at least two years of experience in orthopedic patient care. Certification by the National Board of Certification for Orthopedic Technologists (NBOCT) is preferred. The individual works independently without supervision and may be required to provide call coverage.


REQUIREMENTS

• Articulates descriptions of orthopedic conditions to patients and their families based on the understanding of anatomical structures and their relationships with one another.
• Applies, adjusts, and removes all common orthopedic devices, using a manual or standard practice as a guideline.
• Performs basic casting, including the application of SPICA casts.
• Knowledge of theory and application of skin or skeletal traction.
• Must perform in an operating room environment as a first and second assistant or scrub technician under the direct supervision of a surgeon.

POSITION SUMMARY

• Required: At least 2 years full-time work experience in a hospital, clinic, office or as an independent contractor working directly in the care of orthopedic patients.

EDUCATION

• Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Required: BLS/CPR thru the American Heart Association upon hire
• Required: National Board of Certification of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT) - within 2 years of date of hire
