Match Charter Public School is a free, high-performing charter public school in Boston. We are a PreK-12 school serving 1,250 students. Position : Middle School Reading Specialist

OVERVIEW OF ROLE :

Match Charter Public Schools middle school has a 2025-2026 opening for a full-time Reading Specialist. The position is based at the middle school campus, located on 215 Forest Hills St. in Jamaica Plain.

The Reading Specialists work will prioritize Match middle school students who are below grade level in reading. The Reading Specialist will improve reading growth and achievement at Match by serving as an interventionist and as a leader of foundational skills programming. This person will provide small group instruction to students needing targeted support to close reading gaps and develop literacy skills. In collaboration with instructional leaders and the Principal, this person will also help develop and oversee a systematic approach to identifying, diagnosing, remediating, and progress monitoring.

The compensation for this position ranges from $67,812-$104,899 and is based on a candidates prior years of experience. Match offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes 90% coverage of health insurance costs and student loan repayment assistance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interventions and Assessment


  • Provide direct reading intervention services to middle school students who are struggling with reading, using evidence-based practices aligned with the science of reading.

  • Collaborate with instructional staff to implement strategies that support struggling readers in general education classrooms.

  • Support ELA teachers in planning curriculum and instruction that includes access points for struggling readers, ensuring all students can engage with grade-level content.

  • Collect and analyze student reading data, use data to inform targeted interventions, and support general education teachers in responding to student needs.

  • Monitor student progress through formal and informal assessments, adjusting interventions and instructional strategies as needed.


  • Instill a sense of urgency and investment around foundational reading skills within the staff and Communicate school wide growth and trends

  • Support a school-wide culture of literacy by sharing best practices, resources, and professional development related to effective reading instruction.

General Duties


  • Uphold high academic and behavioral expectations for students, and provide lots of support for getting students there;

  • Participate actively in Matchs coaching and professional development programming;

  • Assist with school programming as needed during non-instructional time; and

  • Serve as a positive and collaborative member of the Match Charter Public School community

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Masters Degree as a Reading Specialist, or related field, strongly preferred.

  • Hold a valid and appropriate Reading Specialist licensure issued by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, strongly preferred;

  • At least 3 years of experience in teaching reading, reading intervention, and/or teacher coaching;

  • A strong track record of success with reading achievement and growth;

  • Prior training and/or experience with systematic phonics instruction, Fountas and Pinnell LLI, and/or Orton-Gillingham, strongly preferred

  • Detail oriented and highly organized with strong analytical skills.

  • Strong knowledge of intervention strategies

  • Entrepreneurial approach to initiatives and problem solving

  • Dedication to urgently improving student achievement data
