Position Summary:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager within ITW's Residential & Renovation Division, the Machine Operator will be responsible for the setup, operation, and preventive maintenance of equipment to produce tooling according to quality specifications in an efficient and safe manner. This role is located onsite at the organization in Lake Forest, IL.

Primary Responsibilities:
    \n
  • Drives safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations including identifying safety hazards.
  • \n
  • Produces machined parts by setting up and operating a Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Mill and Electro Discharge Machines (EDM).
  • \n
  • Plans machining operations by studying production schedule and setup sheets.
  • \n
  • Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
  • \n
  • Runs Mill and EDMs by loading appropriate materials and running the correct programs.
  • \n
  • Maintains sharp tools and adequate stock for removal in fixtures, changes as needed.
  • \n
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • \n
  • Manages shipments of finished tooling to secondary processes and manufacturing sites.
  • \n
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • \n
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • \n
  • Participates in continuous improvement by thinking of ways to perform work safer, faster, or with better quality.
  • \n
  • Performs 6S activities and improvements as required
  • \n
  • Works with other team members and participates in team events and meetings.

Qualifications:
    \n
  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred but not required.
  • \n
  • At least one year of experience in CNC manufacturing highly preferred (e.g. equipment setup/operation/changeover, use of measurement tools and knowledge of preventive maintenance)
  • \n
  • Willing to work assigned shift with minimal overtime as needed
  • \n
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to understand basic machinery

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to recognize and identify parts, problems, and offer resolution
  • \n
  • Ability to read blueprints / specification sheets and follow instructions

  • Comfortable using a computer to interface with machines and office programs including email.

  • Successfully complete on-the-job training (machine setup, running programs, use of inspection tools)

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, climate variances and moving mechanical equipment typically found in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment (office) is usually low, but much higher when exposed to the manufacturing areas. Certain personal protective equipment is required when in the manufacturing areas. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee must be able to lift product and display materials that weigh from 1 pound to 50 pounds on a consistent basis. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend, kneel, lift, stand, and walk on hard surfaces such as concrete.

The hourly base pay for this position ranges from $25.00 to $39.00, depending on experience level. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
