We cover politics, policy, labor, business, and economic news through a class lens, and we pair our reporting with activism to help working people win policy fights. Launched in February 2021, More Perfect Union’s coverage has garnered 1 billion video views and 4 million followers and subscribers.

We are looking for a Vertical Video Producer to source and develop news-driven vertical videos that mobilize viewers against corporate power and corruption while empowering the working class. This person will play a key role in shaping our vertical video strategy and must have strong storytelling skills and experience in content ideation, building source relationships, scripting, and pre- and post-production of vertical videos. The Vertical Video Producer will also work to develop a broad network of creators, labor leaders, partner organizations, and reporters to source breaking news moments, amplify working-class issues, and generate viral news moments around our content.

The Vertical Video Producer must be immersed in and excited about the process of telling stories through video, with the technical, narrative, and relational skills to create powerful moments that hook viewers and keep people watching to the end. The position requires a high level of self-sufficiency, strong collaboration and communication skills, understanding of the labor movement, and a desire to help develop and grow our brand.

Core Responsibilities:

• Conceive of, produce, and script original videos for our social media channels, with an emphasis on documenting strikes, union drives, protests, and other action from the field;
• Grow our network of creators and collaborators to engage and mobilize our viewers around news moments, organizing actions, and policy fights;
• Develop and maintain relationships with sources and content creators;
• Identify interview subjects, write scripts, record VO or shoot direct to camera; 
• Provide research assistance, fact checking and copy editing on video scripts;
• Work with our producers to break down longer, produced pieces into compelling short-form content;
• Receive assignments from supervisor and colleagues for prompt action;
• Operate in a nimble environment;
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience/Qualifications:

• 3+ years experience in social media/video production, preferably as part of a campaign or advocacy organization;
• An excellent scriptwriter, producer, storyteller and collaborator, with strong interpersonal skills and experience in on-camera work;
• Existing relationships with content creators, labor leaders, advocacy organizations and other information sources;
• Strong editorial judgement, understanding of journalistic practices and ethics, and experience working within a fast-paced news cycle;
• Proficiency with Adobe Premiere as well as in-platform editing tools on TikTok and Instagram;
• Proven ability to grow audiences on social media, in particular TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube;
• Experience managing interns or fellows is a plus;
• Passion for, and substantial knowledge of, national politics and economic justice issues;
• A self-starter who pays close attention to detail and is highly organized and capable of meeting tight deadlines;
• Available full-time hours and able to excel in a remote/work from home environment;
