This position is a hands-on oriented engineer responsible for leading concurrent projects of various sizes & types including profit maintenance, VIP, safety, and capacity to meet business objectives. This will also include designing and troubleshooting electrical and/or mechanical systems of industrial automation and be a technical leader supporting the manufacturing process. The role involves developing User Requirement Specifications, Technical Specification and Design Specifications for new automated processing equipment or upgrades to existing equipment such as robotic assembly, vision systems, convey systems, tubing extruders, and injection molding equipment. The engineer performs process reviews and prepares technical reports detailing equipment operation, best practices and recommended changes. They prepare documentation in support of capital projects and manage capital projects, monitor and report project costs including capital and cross-functional expenses, and estimate cost affected by design and/or policy changes. The role includes leading small project teams as needed to accomplish project objectives, utilizing lean principles to reduce waste in the manufacturing process, managing multiple projects simultaneously while coordinating efforts with management, engineering, and factory personnel to meet completion dates and minimize production downtime. The engineer supports testing and validation of manufacturing systems from concept through production, provides ongoing support of continuous improvement efforts to support yearly value improvement opportunities, and supports manufacturing related to safe and efficient daily operations. The role interfaces with different functional groups and produces appropriate documentation in support of projects, works closely with product development leaders, suppliers and manufacturing to ensure meeting of customer needs and requirements. Requirements include a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, creativity, motivation, diligence, positive attitude, passion for engineering and technology, ability to work with little direction and give guidance to others, proficiency in written and verbal communication including Microsoft Office, leadership and assistance with electrical or controls issues for equipment to determine root cause and solutions, basic understanding of controls & electrical systems, experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting, experience troubleshooting mechanical issues and applying engineering principles for permanent solutions, general knowledge of CAD design and ability to use AutoCAD, SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor software to create basic conceptual designs, and ability to identify and implement process improvements in existing automated mechanical systems. Physical and safety requirements include possible overtime work including nights and weekends, use of hands and fingers to manipulate office equipment, standing and walking for extended periods, and lifting up to 50 lbs. The position may be eligible for discretionary bonus and requires authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
