Salary: $20-$22 / hr DOE

This is a  part-time hourly position   that will require work between 20 and 40 hours each week. Hours and opportunities for growth will be based on the skills, ambition and performance of the qualified candidate. Those who work their way up to full-time will be offered full benefits including a stipend for healthcare and paid leave. This role reports directly to the full-time ranch manager.

You must live within the Sutter Creek /Pine Grove/Plymouth/Jackson/Volcano   area since it will require regular daily visits to the ranch.

Typical ranch related duties include:

• Care and feeding of animals such as: cats, goats, pigs, cattle and chickens.
• Building and repairing fences and enclosures
• Running machinery including saws, welding equipment and tractor
• Maintaining machinery including oil changes, cleaning, lubrication
• Building irrigation systems
  
• Building and maintaining buildings such as workshops, barns, greenhouses, and livestock shelter
• Planning, planting and care of vegetables
• Planning, planting and care of vineyard
• Digging ditches using a pickaxe, shovel and good old elbow grease (see physical requirements below)
  

Regular duties will be Monday through Friday with a flexible schedule that works for everyone. Occasionally there will be a need for weekend visits to check in on animals or other minor tasks--these will be arranged in advance so we can all plan appropriately.

• You're very well organized with a great system for remembering all the "little things"
• You don't wait for someone to drop a task in your lap because you see a need and you "just get it done."
• When you see problems, you find solutions, not excuses.
• You're physically capable of performing labor on a working ranch that will require heavy lifting (in excess of 75 pounds), bending, kneeling, working with your hands, working with tools and machinery.
• You've got an amazing sense of humor and, while you may work really hard, you take time to laugh at the world around you. You're even not afraid to laugh at your silly mistakes!
• You take time to enjoy life and you know how to strike a balance between getting things done and ensuring you have time to relax.
• You should have good mechanical acumen (ever changed a tire? ever run tractor?)
• You should be tech savvy - you shouldn't think your smartphone is smarter than you!
• You're very flexible, able to shift mid project to something else, and able to multitask
• You're an excellent communicator with a calm and even temper even when things don't quite go as you expect them to
• You're very good at planning, executing and know how to follow through on things that don't get done in a day
• You're honest with strong sense of integrity -- you know that having good character and reputation is worth more than any amount of money
• You're someone who likes to work and enjoys what you do because for you, it's as much as about the "doing" as the "earning"
• You're someone who isn't afraid to get real dirty when the job or task requires it because you take pride in your work and dirt washes off :-)

All qualifying candidates must be willing to submit to a background check that will include credit, criminal, driving record and related verification . Days of the week are flexible and we would prefer that you could be flexible as well--we'll work with you just as we want you to work with us! :-) All candidates must have a well maintained personal vehicle. Mileage outside of the Sutter Creek area will be reimbursed at the current IRS mileage rate. 

You have a strong beginning:

• High School, High School Equivalent or Some college experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Previous experience as a ranch hand or equivalent such as FFA
• Strong character and work experience references

Maybe you've invested in yourself and your career (not required):

• Experience building and caring for a vineyard, greenhouse or small/medium vegetable farm
• Experience in construction or as a handyman
• Experience raising livestock
• Experience welding
