Summary

We are currently seeking a motivated self-starting Project Manager to support our Water/Wastewater Practice in our Cedar Rapids, Iowa office. The Water/Wastewater practice covers a broad array of work, including moving projects from conceptual planning through design, bidding, permitting, and construction. Some projects for Water include raw water supply (including well and surface water intakes), pumping, treatment, storage and distribution. Wastewater projects include wastewater treatment plant studies and design, collection system assessments and rehabilitation, pump/lift stations, and process/mechanical piping systems.

The Project Manager is accountable for the successful management of assigned projects, marketing and client development, technical quality, profitability, schedule, project staff coordination, client communications, scoping and negotiating scopes and fees, client follow-up, billing/collections and maintenance. The Project Manager must maintain superior relationships with each of his/her clients and direct periodic communication with team members is essential. The successful candidate will manage several projects and tasks, and may be responsible for completing those tasks, simultaneously.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Management Duties

  • Strategizes and formulates scopes of services, meticulous project budgets, and contracts to meet client expectations.
  • Executes projects or assigned tasks within stipulated timelines and budgets, diligently monitoring project schedules and finances. Conducts formal Project Reviews, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.
  • Effectively delegates tasks, schedules, and budgets to project team members and subcontractors, coordinating project schedules and facilitating kick-off and interim project status meetings.
  • Offers constructive feedback and mentorship to enhance the performance of project team members, conducting comprehensive Project Staff Reviews.
  • Ensures task accuracy through the implementation of HR Green QA/QC processes tailored to each project.
  • Proactively identifies and addresses technical, schedule, or financial issues through clear communication with the team.
  • Assists clients in bidding processes and contractor selection, actively managing construction aspects and overseeing field personnel.
  • Coordinates comprehensive construction administration, from monitoring to invoicing and fee collection.
  • Establishes and manages revenue goals based on extensive experience.

Technical Project Delivery

  • Independently applies professional judgment to complete engineering tasks within federal, state, and local criteria for water and wastewater projects.
  • Assumes technical responsibility for major design tasks, ensuring alignment with the requirements of both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Legally signs and seals engineering documents as an authorized representative of the company.
  • Engages in effective communication on technical matters with clients, demonstrating autonomy in decision-making.

Business Development

  • Strategically cross-markets other firm services to clients, actively participating in professional society activities related to water and wastewater professionals.
  • Contributes insights to the creation of marketing plans and maintains accurate records of marketing activities with individual clients.
  • Identifies project opportunities, providing input to Go/No Go decisions and participating in the preparation of engineering services proposals.
  • Collaborates in interviews and contributes to the calculation/estimation of time schedules and costs for proposed work.
  • Establishes and pursues sales goals based on substantial experience.

Education and Experience

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Must have 8 or more years of relevant water/wastewater engineering experience.
  • The successful candidate must market water/wastewater services to new and existing clients, manage wastewater design and construction projects (concept and final design), delegate work and coach staff.

Certificates and Licenses

Must possess a current, valid Professional Engineer (P.E.) license and have the ability to obtain licensure in one or more other states in which HR Green conducts business. The employee must be capable of driving/operating a motor vehicle for company business and maintain a valid driver’s license in the state of residence.
