Private family seeks a skilled, knowledgeable and adaptable Private Chef with certified nutrition credentials to oversee daily culinary needs at their primary residence on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This is a full-time, Monday through Friday, live-out position based in New York City, with occasional Friday daily travel to Greenwich and a summer live-in weekday schedule in the family's Southampton residence, with occasional weekends as needed.

The ideal candidate is creative and highly organized, with a passion for wellness and culinary variety, who will bring a warm, collaborative presence to the home. The Chef will be responsible for preparing daily lunches, dinners, and snacks with a focus on seasonal and whole-food cooking tailored to family member's dietary needs and palates - crafting plated meals that accommodate heart-healthy dietary needs as well as the evolving preferences of active teenagers. The Chef will manage all aspects of kitchen operations including menu planning, grocery shopping, inventory, and ensuring meals are homemade and nutritionally balanced. Weekly menus will be submitted in advance, and meals prepared and packaged for the weekend. This is a long-term opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who can collaborate and delivers excellence with consistency, care, and flexibility.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing nutritionally balanced, heart-healthy meals with a focus on fresh, whole ingredients and menu variety
  • Creating rotating, seasonal weekly menus tailored to each family member's dietary needs and preferences (menu due each Wednesday following Monday's schedule from the assistant)
  • Presenting plated dinner for up to 6 people, 5 days per week with daily dinner service at 6:30pm
  • Executing Friday preparations for weekend meals and packaging accordingly
  • Preparing meals for special events hosted by the family (possibly on a weekday, weekend, or holiday)
  • Managing all aspects of kitchen operations: sourcing, inventory, rotation, food safety, sanitation
  • Preparing homemade sauces, dressings, and broths
  • Respecting key dietary guidelines of Low-sodium, heart-healthy focus and balanced, flavorful meals for teens
  • Incorporating elevated techniques such as fermentation, pickling, bone broth, and use of anti-inflammatory ingredients a PLUS
  • Collaborating seamlessly with household team to maintain smooth operations and a respectful family atmosphere, while accommodating a busy, fluctuating family schedule
  • Remaining open and responsive to feedback and evolving culinary needs

Requirements:

  • Strong command of English language; superior communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Certified nutritional training or equivalent experience REQUIRED
  • Excellent references required from both current and previous employers
  • Minimum 3-5+ years related experience working in a similar role for a private home or family
  • Strong understanding of seasonal ingredients and health-conscious cooking
  • Proven ability to design and prepare varied, high-quality meals aligned with specific health needs
  • Excellent knowledge of hygiene and safe food handling(i.e., no cross-contamination, etc.)
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills with a dedication to responsibilities; above and beyond attitude
  • Polished, poised and professional in both mindset and manor; use of utmost discretion at all times
  • Adaptable and collaborate, open and responsive to feedback
  • Flexible in scheduling; willingness to work overtime as needed
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Legally able to work within the United States
