The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Pharmacy Technician assists in the provision of pharmaceutical services under the direct supervision of the Registered Pharmacist by performing the technical, clerical, and manipulative tasks involved in dispensing, preparing, and distributing all medications and pharmaceutical products for all patient age groups (including geriatrics, and adult).

Position requires standing long hours, walking and ability to routinely lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

• Previous hospital central experience is desirable
• Associates degree preferred
• Prior pharmacy experience preferred
• Prior experience with dispensing in an institutional environment preferred
• PTCB certification preferred

Certifications and Licenses Required:

• State of New Jersey Pharmacy Technician, CPhT preferred or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Scheduling Requirements:

• 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm
• Every other or every third weekend rotation in addition to holiday rotation
• Full Time

Essential Functions:

• Assists in care and maintenance of departmental premises and equipment
• Communicates all discrepancies and information requested to a Registered Pharmacist
• Displays self initiative in anticipating and resolving daily work issues
• Files departmental records as appropriate
• Performs dosage calculations and labels appropriately
• Technician displays competency in maintaining, filing, troubleshooting, and running reports in Pyxis
• Under the direction of the Pharmacist, prepares medication for dispensing; maintains unit dose system; delivers drug orders; and maintains and demonstrates awareness of limitations of technicians
• Willingness and flexibility to work alternating and rotating work schedules on short notice
• Willingness to work with attention to detail with the realization that errors may have serious consequences.
