Imagine starting your day validating a finite element model in Ansys, then stepping into a cross-functional huddle with component, system, and manufacturing leads to solve an emergent design challenge on a reactor internal. After lunch, you sync with project managers to adjust schedules, close out a set of closed-form calculations, and weave NRC/DOE/ASME code criteria into a qualification package. As evening approaches, you prepare to support an outage—sometimes on site, sometimes remotely—where 12-hour and occasional overnight shifts keep critical refueling activities on track. That is a typical day for our Nuclear Mechanical Design Engineer.

Where you'll work

Based in Cranberry Township, PA, you will report to the Manager, RVI Load Development & Analysis • Reactor Component Engineering. This is a hybrid role. Relocation assistance is not available.

What you will take on

• Design, modify, repair, and qualify components within the primary pressure boundary of Westinghouse-designed nuclear plants, including the current fleet and AP1000 reactors.
• Execute structural and thermal-hydraulic analyses using tools such as finite element simulations (e.g., Ansys), closed-form engineering methods, and Westinghouse internal analysis codes.
• Integrate subsystems in partnership with component, system, and manufacturing leads; resolve emergent design issues with sound engineering judgment.
• Collaborate with project managers and subsystem/component leads to build and maintain realistic schedules.
• Identify technical risks and challenges, then drive mitigation plans through to resolution.
• Apply relevant industry and regulatory standards (NRC/DOE/ASME) throughout design and qualification activities.
• Provide technical guidance and collaborate across a diverse network of national laboratories, subcontractors, suppliers, fabricators, and customers.
• Support plant refueling outages on-site and remotely, including periods of 12-hour and overnight work due to time-sensitive needs.

What you bring

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or Aerospace Engineering preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in component structural analysis or thermo-hydraulics.

Pay transparency

We are committed to transparency and equity in our people practices. The base salary range for this position, dependent on experience, qualifications, and skills, is $69,200 to $86,500 per year.
