Performs a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks in support of the clinical activities in the UNCHCS.This position has responsibilities in the following sections of the laboratory - Microbiology Processing and STAT Area, Bacteriology, and Special Microbiology sections of the laboratory. The Special Microbiology section consists of Mycobacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, and Sendouts.
Schedule: Wednesday-Saturday 10:00am - 8:30pm and rotating holidays
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
1. Direct specimen processing and direct specimen Gram stains
2. Rapid antigen testing – Cdiff, Strep, Legionella, Trichomonas, Mono, Crypto
3. Rapid molecular/PCR testing – RSV, Flu, Cdiff, Gram Positive Susceptibility COVID testing
4. Total Lab Automation instrumentation (BD Kiestra), plate reading and organism ID
5. Susceptibility testing – automated and KB
6. Quality control of instruments, reagents, and media.
7. Investigates problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow.
8. May perform teaching of Clinical Laboratory Science students, Pathology residents, training of new employees. 10. May serve as a technical resource.
9. Reports results to healthcare providers and consults providers regarding test results. 13. Reviews test results to ensure accuracy of report and timely correction of errors.

Education Requirements:
● Requires Bachelor's of Science degree. Must meet eligibility requirements upon hire to sit for MT exam within 12 months of hire.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Must obtain certification within one year of becoming exam eligible.
