Maintenance Technician School Pullets

Opal Foods is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Technician for our Iowa Falls Pullet Farm in Iowa Falls, IA . This position is responsible for performing preventive maintenance and repairs on machinery while maintaining compliance with all company policies and governmental regulations including safety, bio-security and animal welfare requirements. This position will work in the pullet houses and must be able to work in a live animal/farm environment. This position will also assist the Pullet Manager with other projects and duties as needed.

Position Responsibilities:

• Keep equipment running and operating safely and efficiently by maintaining and repairing machinery and mechanical equipment such as electric motors, pneumatic systems, and conveyor systems
• Perform preventive and urgent maintenance of production machinery and equipment
• Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments
• Take a proactive approach to issue resolution including root cause analyses and error proofing controls related to down time
• Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment to perform duties
• Use front end loader to move litter
• Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas

Physical Requirements of a Maintenance Technician:

• Fast paced work environment
• Lift fifty or more pounds on a regular basis
• Bend, lift, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb
• Work in a general farm environment around live animals; must be able to tolerate a dusty environment

Requirements: (knowledge, experience, skills, education)

• Mechanical and electrical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Previous experience troubleshooting equipment, performing preventive maintenance and repairing industrial processing equipment
• Front end loader/Forklift certification
• Organized and detail oriented
• Willing to work off schedule shifts and/or nights when necessary

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2 years of experience in maintenance related roles
• Ability to communicate in English and Spanish
