About the Role:

The Maintenance Mechanic II will work with all department heads to support companywide operating objectives and will report to the Maintenance Supervisor. This role provides technical and problem-solving assistance to other departments, including recommendations for equipment and process improvements to reduce operating costs and increase efficiencies. The Maintenance Mechanic II performs general preventative maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, and production equipment, as well as assists in monitoring building system operations and performance. This role utilizes several trade skills, such as plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and fabrication.

Pay Range: $36.00/hr - $39.00/hr

Status: Hourly, Full-time

Work Hours: 12-hour shifts, with mandatory overtime as needed

Days of the Week Needed: Sunday - Saturday, with weekends and holidays as needed

  • Week 1: 3 days on / 4 days off
  • Week 2: 4 days on / 3 days off

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support all Covid-19 protocols, food safety, sanitation, production, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Maintain CAL/OSHA and HACCP programs, ensuring compliance.
  • Maintain daily records to support the Preventive Maintenance and Work Order systems.
  • Uphold company policies and GMP procedures, leading by example.
  • Inspect and repair systems to ensure they operate at the capacities required to meet production schedules.
  • Schedule PM work daily, weekly, quarterly, and yearly using a PM computer system and paperwork.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of repairs and/or replacement of facility equipment, including but not limited to compressors, boilers, and HVAC units.
  • Fabricate lines, conveyors, machine equipment, and tools used in the production areas of the facility.
  • Perform maintenance on machines on the production floor or in the shop due to major breakdowns.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical (PLC), pneumatic, and hydraulic issues.
  • Perform inspections on the functionality of electrical units, potentially up to 480V, using the appropriate tools/equipment.
  • Coach maintenance coworkers and production operators on basic maintenance and equipment settings.
  • Maneuver wheeled tool bags and carts with tools, equipment, and supplies. Maneuver dolly, pallet jack, furniture carts, and machines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Hair and beard net, gloves, safety shoes, bump cap, smocks
  • Chemical Exposure: Cleaning supplies and food allergens
  • Temperature: Refrigerated at 67 degrees Fahrenheit

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience as a maintenance mechanic, electrical mechanic, or equivalent education
  • 5 years of experience troubleshooting and maintaining automated equipment
  • 2 years of experience in food safety in a food manufacturing environment preferred
  • Certifications or degree in automation technology or mechatronics preferred
  • Experience or coursework in hydraulics, pneumatics, programmable logic controllers, electrical circuits, electrical machinery, photo eye, and human-machine interfaces
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Word
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required

Physical Demands and Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain a safe and positive work environment
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs frequently
  • Ability to bend, twist, stoop, squat, and pivot
  • Ability to walk and stand for 12+ hour shifts
  • Ability to perform essential job functions while working in a plant environment with limited climate control and exposure to machinery noise
