Duties

• Screening evidence for the presence of biological fluids (e.g., blood, semen, saliva, etc.)
• Conducting complex biochemical and chemical tests to characterize these fluids
• Selecting stains for DNA analysis
• Screening and processing Sexual Assault Kits (SAKs)
• Preparing detailed and legally sound analytical reports
• Communicating findings through written documentation and courtroom testimony

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in biological, chemical, or natural sciences
• Job-related laboratory experience

• Completed coursework in:
• Biochemistry
• Genetics and Molecular Biology
• Statistics or Population Genetics
• 6+ months of experience in a forensic laboratory setting
• Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)

• Strong foundation in forensic biology and laboratory best practices
• Experience identifying and analyzing body fluids and human hair
• Skilled with scientific tools such as:
• Microscopes
• Pipettors
• Robotic liquid handlers
• DNA quantification instruments
• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask in a high-volume environment
• Comfortable testifying in court as a scientific expert
• Ability to collaborate effectively with law enforcement, attorneys, SANE nurses, and other stakeholders
