Job Description

The Department of Comparative Medicine at the University of Washington invites applications for a Fellow non-acgme position in Comparative Pathology. This is a 12-month service period (July 1 ? June 30) with an anticipated start date of Autumn 2024. The base salary range for this position will be $8,333.33-$10,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This fellowship in Comparative Pathology is expected to be completed within 2 years. The successful candidate will have completed a residency in Veterinary Pathology and will be eligible to take the board examination. Fellows will provide service through the departmental diagnostic laboratory and receive training in the pathology of common laboratory animal species, including genetically engineered rodents. They will also participate in our NIH-funded research-training program and in our teaching program. Paid time off for boards preparation will be arranged. Upon completion of the fellowship, there may be an opportunity to transition into a faculty position with primary responsibility for the Histology and Imaging Core at the University of Washington.

Since 1969, the University of Washington School of Medicine has ranked among the top five educational institutions in receipt of federal funding. The DCM has a faculty of 45 primary, clinical, and affiliate veterinarians and scientists who have diverse training and expertise in laboratory animal biology and medicine, veterinary pathology, surgery, internal medicine, and aquatics. DCM faculty research interests are broad and include specific expertise in hematologic cancer, developmental immunology, inflammatory lung disease, innate immunity, inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer, comparative pathology, nutrition/metabolism, embryonic stem cell biology, and aging. The applicant must have a D.V.M. or V.M.D. from a school or college accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and have completed a residency approved by the American College of Veterinary Pathology. The addition of an advanced degree in a relevant area would be considered an advantage. We are looking for an individual with strong interpersonal skills who will receive training and participate in clinical diagnostic, research, management, and teaching activities.
