Salary:

Duties and Responsibilities:

Works under the general supervision of the Farm Manager, Kickapoo Tribal Farm and Ranch Enterprise and is responsible for the following:

• Drives trucks, tractors, and other farm equipment and performs a variety of livestock and crop raising duties as directed on general farm; e.g., plows, disks, harrows, fertilizes soil, cultivates, sprays, and harvests crops.
• Operates, repairs, and maintains farm implements and mechanical equipment, including tractors, combine/gleaner, swather, mowers, cultivators, plows, disks.
• Repairs farm buildings, fences, and other structures.
• Hauls livestock and produce to market.
• Mixes feed and additives, fills feed troughs with feed and waters livestock. Examines livestock to detect diseases and injuries. Vaccinates animals. Applies medications to cuts and bruises, sprays livestock with insecticides. Assists veterinarian with calving or castration.
• Assists Farm Manager in other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements :

Must be a high school graduate or have earned a GED; through either requirement may be waived based upon the incumbent’s substituting 6 months satisfactory work experience in any two of the above areas of duties and responsibilities (s)he will be expected to perform.

Must be able to lift at least 50-75 pounds and withstand jarring of vehicles over rough surfaces.

Incumbent must possess valid driver’s license, without DWI (driving while intoxicated) in past 3 years.

Most of the work performed will be outside. Incumbent will be exposed to temperature extremes ranging between 100 degrees F in summer and below 0 degrees F during the winter months; dust, pollen, chemicals, and other allergens associated with farming.

Indian Preference Policy :

Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472). Verification must be submitted with the application if claiming Indian Preference. Consideration will be given to non-Indian applications in the absence of qualified Indian Preference eligible.

Privacy Act:

The Ranch and Farm Worker, General, must comply with all requirements and provisions of Subpart D, of 43 CFR, Part 2, which implements the Privacy Act (5USC 552a) (i) (l).
