About the Role
When a child struggles in school, the educational system tends to be difficult to navigate. Families often feel alone and at a disadvantage regarding knowledge and understanding of how the system works and the regulations that govern the system. The Educational Consultant will work with parents/guardians of children with learning disabilities and mental health issues to assist and empower them to navigate the education system effectively for their child.
The Educational Consultant will partner with parents/guardians to increase their understanding of their child’s learning needs. The Educational Consultant does this by reviewing the school records, discussing strengths and weaknesses, explaining how the disability may manifest itself in the classroom and at home, reviewing services under New York State Part 200 Regulations, and making strategy recommendations.
The Educational Consultant will support the parents/guardians at various school meetings in order to
improve continuity between student learning needs and school support/services.
This position is hybrid remote and in person.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education or Special Education required. CSE experience and ability to read and interpret IEP’s, psychological evaluations and assessments. Knowledge of OPWDD preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required skills include: active listening and effective speaking, time management, critical thinking, basic technology/e-mail, reading comprehension, effective written and verbal expression.
Conditions of Employment
Must possess a valid driver’s license and transportation necessary to meet program needs.
