City of Pierz - Urgent Hiring: Director of Public Works

Key Responsibilities:

• Direct daily operations and maintenance of city streets, storm sewer, drainage, and facilities.
• Manage the municipal electric utility, coordinating with contractors on outages and new services.
• Oversee park and grounds maintenance, ensuring safe and attractive public spaces.
• Develop and manage departmental budgets and capital improvement planning.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate staff while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
• Respond to emergencies and public inquiries; attend City Council and Park Board meetings as needed.

Qualifications:

• Specialized training or education in public works or a related field; three years of progressive experience including supervision.
• Must possess a Minnesota Class B CDL; ability to obtain additional certifications within one year.
• Knowledge of maintenance operations, utilities, safety regulations, and budgeting practices.
• Ability to respond to emergencies within 20 minutes.

Work Environment:

• Indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Exposure to noise, equipment, and physical labor.
• Evening or weekend hours as needed.
