Deputy Building Inspector – LAWA - Airport

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

KKCS is seeking an experienced Deputy Building Inspector to support Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) as part of the Quality Assurance and Construction Inspection Division. This position will focus on providing special inspection services for major capital improvement projects, ensuring compliance with LADBS Deputy Building Inspector standards and LAWA-specific requirements.

This role requires multiple valid LADBS Deputy Licenses and a strong background in large-scale construction projects. Candidates must be prepared to work flexible shifts (day, swing, or night), including weekends, in alignment with contractor schedules.

This is a full-time, onsite position at LAX with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM .

Key Job Duties

Essential Job Duties

  • Perform special inspections in disciplines including:
  • Concrete construction
  • Steel construction
  • Drilled-in anchors/seismic resistance
  • Spray-applied fireproofing
  • Prepare comprehensive daily inspection reports that document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of construction activities.
  • Review and utilize contract documents such as change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documentation.
  • Track and verify time-and-material work, job quantities, and field changes .
  • Assist in validating monthly progress payment requests when assigned.
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and city officials to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations .
  • Identify and address deficiencies or violations, ensuring corrective actions meet required standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as a LADBS Deputy Building Inspector on large-scale construction projects.
  • Valid Los Angeles City Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) Deputy Licenses in:
  • Concrete construction
  • Steel construction
  • Drilled-in anchors/seismic resistance
  • Spray-applied fireproofing
  • Proof of Cal-OSHA 30-hour training (within the last 4 years).
  • LAWA SIDA badge required prior to start.
  • Ability to work any assigned shift , including nights, weekends, and overtime.
  • Physical ability to perform inspections in diverse site conditions (ladders, scaffolds, confined spaces).
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Certifications/Training:
    1. Cal OSHA-30
    2. Fall protection and harness training
    3. Confined Space Entry Training

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional LADBS Deputy Licenses in other inspection disciplines.
  • Proven ability to inspect large-scale, complex facilities such as airports or public infrastructure projects.
  • Strong communication and time management skills .
  • Proficiency with PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam , and other electronic document control systems.

Element-Specific Requirements/Notes

  • May be required to work various shifts (day, swing, and night) as dictated by project schedules.
  • Must be open to modified schedules , including nights and weekends, to align with contractor activities and accelerated project timelines.
  • Overtime availability is preferred to meet project deadlines and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Flexibility to assume other duties as assigned to support program needs.
