Job Description
Seeking to hire a Cemetery Grounds Maintenance Associate for La Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. Duties are carried out under the general supervision of the Grounds Superintendent, performing semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance, development and operation of the cemetery.
Responsibilities
Mows grass, trims markers, shrubs and trees
Maintains flower beds, shrubs and trees. Knowledge of pruning, fertilizing, soil amendment, weed whacking and propagation of plants
Knowledge of the composting process is helpful.
Operates laws and grounds equipment including mower, weed trimmer, leaf blowers and other related equipment
Ability to drive and operate a Backhoe to open graves
May perform disinterment of human remains
Assisting with burial vaults as well as digging graves and backfilling them, helping the team open and close graves for interment, inurnments and entombments
May determine the location and layout of graves
Remove debris and trash throughout the cemetery
May also be required to help set up burials (chairs, erect canopies, hydraulic lift and lowering devices for caskets and vaults). Execution of service orders per family's needs, providing information to customers. Repair and install irrigation lines. Installation of headstones. Help with office and mortuary requests as needed. The candidate should be a team player, courteous and respectful in all communication with families and visitors.
Skills
Ability to lift 50 lbs in weight without any physical limitations or issues.
Two years of landscaping experience preferred.
Ability to operate hand held tools and equivalent, including but not limited to a shovel, rake, measuring tape, lawn mower, weed trimmer and leaf blower
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
Team player
Ability to communicate effectively with associates, contractors and client families
Qualifications
Equivalent of high school diploma. Valid driver's license. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference/background check, including a conviction record, and pass a post-offer pre-employment medical check which may include drug/alcohol screening.
Compensation: $17-$25 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
Hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm but open to working on Saturdays and Sundays (overtime paid).Most federal holidays paid. 48 hours paid sick time per year. Employee discounts, vacation pay (includes birthday and one personal day. Bonuses.
