Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Field Engineer / Building Systems Engineer

Location: San Antonio, TX

Travel Required: Yes – 5% Domestic (Georgetown, KY)

Overtime: Up to 25%

Requirements:

Education :

• Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory)
• OR 10–15 years as a Journeyman Industrial Mechanic with relevant building construction experience

Experience :

• 5–10 years in mechanical building construction projects
• Industrial/Automotive building projects preferred
• HVAC systems , equipment installations, hard building expansions
• Work with union contractors , building trades
• NOT suitable: purely commercial experience (e.g., fast-food outlets), oil/gas pipeline

Technical Skills :

• Mechanical system design, commissioning, and startup
• Familiarity with codes and standards: IBC, NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE, ASME, etc.
• Safety compliance: OSHA, Lock-Out/Tag-Out, arc flash

Soft Skills :

• Strong communication (verbal & written)
• Project coordination, multi-tasking, time management

Responsibilities:

• Review and approve submittals, shop drawings, and specs
• Oversee mechanical installations and commissioning
• Conduct inspections for quality, code compliance, and safety
• Manage shutdown and weekend coordination with trades
• Attend and lead coordination meetings; track schedule & costs
• Report installation issues and escalate for resolution
• Update project managers on progress
• Provide feedback to improve project specifications
