Anesthesia Technician
A Brief Overview Provides proper setup of supplies and equipment required to perform anesthesia services. Performs various duties involving maintenance, cleaning, preparation of anesthesia supplies, and other semi-routine tasks under supervision and direction of anesthesia professionals.
What you will do - Performs various duties involving setup, maintenance, cleaning, ordering, and preparation of anesthesia supplies and equipment in accordance with established standards and practices. * Maintains, cleans, orders and stocks equipment/supplies. Performs daily stocking and cleaning of anesthesia carts, room cabinets, block/epidural carts, IV carts, difficult airway carts, shock trauma carts, video laryngoscope, fiberoptic bronch, epidural/syringe/IV pumps, transport monitors, ultrasound and other equipment/supplies as assigned. * Cleans anesthesia equipment after use, replacing used supplies. and equipment and prepares operating room for turnover. * Sets up blood warmers. Performs daily machine checks and circuit check when new circuit is installed. Performs negative pressure checks as indicated. * Monitors inventory levels of anesthesia supplies/equipment and notifies supply distribution of low inventory states as well as appropriate anesthesia personnel. * Checks expiration dates on supplies and equipment.in all carts, cabinets, airway boxes and equipment carts. * Monitors and replaces oxygen tanks. * Removes and restocks unused supplies and equipment after cases. De-clutter carts, machines and cabinets at the end of the day. * Monitors and replaces oxygen, air and N2O tanks. * Transports supplies and equipment. * Maintains specified inventory of I-Stat cartridges.
- Interacts and communicates with health care team, patient and visitors in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient and customer satisfaction. Works effectively with staff to coordinate and implement activities.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies in processing and releasing patient information (i.e. HIPPA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies). Maintains required department records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes.
- Adheres to established department policies, procedures, objectives, compliance and quality improvement with consideration given to risk management, infection control and patient safety practices.
- Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit-based performance improvement activities which includes committees, monitoring and follow-up.
- Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner. Reports malfunction of equipment to supervisor.
- Provides support to nursing and medical staff and provide technical assistance as needed. Assists in the orientation of new staff members and students when they provide patient care, treatment and services as part of their training.
Qualifications - High School education or equivalent. Required
- Minimum 1 year experience Twelve (12) months experience in Anesthesia Department or previous experience/training in a field related to patient care, electronic monitoring, inventory control, equipment maintenance or experience in Armed Service training in related areas. Required
