La conception du projet d’agrandissement de l’école primaire anglophone Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau repose sur une approche conceptuelle présentant l’école comme un centre holistique, lié à la nature et à la communauté, dans le but de créer un environnement de vie dynamique et inclusif. Cela se traduit par la position centrale de la nouvelle école sur le site, tandis que son agrandissement forme une boucle qui relie le programme éducatif à la nature, avec en plein cœur, un espace communautaire.
Omniprésence de la nature
L’agrandissement a été pensé en fonction de l’environnement et de la forme du terrain, tout en gardant à l’esprit qu’il faut préserver les arbres déjà en place. Sa forme angulaire est différente du bâtiment actuel, ce qui donne du relief à l’espace. Il a été conçu pour rendre les lieux plus vivants, avec des zones dynamiques et des espaces de dimensions intéressantes. Le choix des matériaux et la façon dont les façades sont traitées avec une plus grande transparence permettent de mieux harmoniser l’intérieur et l’extérieur.
Environnement physique
Alors que la partie existante du bâtiment est principalement dédiée aux salles de classe en tirant parti de sa configuration structurée, l’extension accueille quant à elle les espaces publics, partagés et communautaires, situés au cœur de l’école et basés sur le modèle de la communauté d’apprentissage.
Ce centre, qui constitue le cœur du projet, relie un réseau d’espaces de collaboration et s’étend à travers l’enveloppe du bâtiment vers la cour intérieure, où se trouvent des arbres, formant ainsi un espace pour la vie étudiante et communautaire.
The design of the expansion project for the Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau English elementary school is based on a conceptual approach that presents the school as a holistic center, connected to nature and the community. The goal is to create a dynamic and inclusive living environment. This vision is reflected in the central positioning of the new school on the site, while the extension forms a loop that connects the educational program to nature, with a community space at its very heart.
Omnipresence of Nature
The expansion has been designed with attention to the surrounding environment and the shape of the terrain, while preserving existing trees. Its angular form contrasts with the existing building, adding dimension to the space. It was conceived to bring the place to life, incorporating dynamic zones and spatially engaging areas. The choice of materials and the treatment of the façades—with greater transparency—enhance the harmony between the interior and exterior spaces.
Physical Environment
While the existing part of the building is primarily dedicated to classrooms, benefiting from a structured layout, the extension hosts the public, shared, and community spaces. These are located at the core of the school and are based on the learning community model.
This central space, which forms the heart of the project, connects a network of collaborative areas and extends through the building’s envelope into the inner courtyard, where trees are planted—creating a space for student and community life.
